£70,000 Fine

The  British conservatives "Tories" were given a 70,000 pound fine for failing to report its finances in the 2015 general elections.  After it was reported that the parties had missing payment of upwards of 200,000 pounds.  They have now resolved the issue.

  1. While reading through this article I found that this is an outstanding amount of money for a fine. As 70,000 pounds is about 87 thousand in U.S Dollars, and if that wasn't enough the 200,000 pounds equals to about 250 thousand US Dollars. That fact that this was an "administrative error" as they recall in the article, is a pretty big mistake in my opinion. In all reality it is good they had resolved the problem, but how did it reach such an extent? That was a very interesting to read up on. Great post.

  2. I agree it is an outstanding amount of money, but my thoughts were that the brits are serious about clear and transparent disclosure of funds to a political party. Perhaps the US could learn something from this about party contributions. Sacha B
